This is made from unroasted coffee beans which are extracted outright, that is why the drink remains green. Of course, everyone wonders what this really is and if it really works or if it is just another new fad. Here are some things you might want to know about it.

You might have seen several blogs or advertisement about green coffee bean extract which might make you think that this is the weight loss supplement from the future. Nowadays, almost everything foreign sounding is sold and claims to be very effective in weight loss, so do not believe everything that you see.

In this case, there is some relative truth to the weight loss claims of green coffee bean extract, but just like all other substances, this is pretty new and is not really that consistent yet. Just like all other supplements, this too has its fair share of non-believers.

Coffee beans actually start out as green seeds which are from a red berry. Green coffee bean extract still contains some caffeine, and this is a great option for those who do not enjoy coffee in its liquid form since several studies have shown that caffeine can boost metabolism by up to 11%. However, the main active ingredient which has made this supplement more popular is the chlorogenic acid. Several studies have shown that this can reduce absorption of carbohydrates from the digestive tract. In effect, this can lower your blood sugar and insulin spikes.

In lab studies conducted in mice, it was shown that chlorogenic acid has helped reduce weight. Mice which were fed the supplement had reduced fat in their livers while the function of the fat burning hormone adiponectin was improved.

If something is effective for losing weight, it usually has its drawbacks on side effects. In this case, the safety of consuming this substance depends on a lot of factors.

It has to be noted that there is actually no standardization when it comes to supplements. Manufacturers do not really have to follow a certain formula, so one product which claims to contain green coffee extract can be formulated in a totally different manner with another supplement which claims to carry such. This can be quite discernible because large doses of caffeine can cause some health issues such as headaches, nausea, insomnia and anxiety.

To Take It Or Not?

Green coffee bean extract does appear to be quite helpful for losing weight, but this is not a wonder drug which will help you shed all that weight in a few weeks. A lot of the studies regarding this supplement are short termed and are often sponsored by companies which sell the supplement.

While you can take all the supplements you want to boost your metabolism, all that matters at the end of the day is changing your diet and exercising regularly. If you are in for some little extra help, then this supplement might be worth trying out. Keep in mind that weight loss is a marathon and not a sprint.
