Who would’ve thought that those smelly fishes and other sea creatures could actually help the brain develop? According to the American Journal of Epidemiology, there is a study conducted in 2016 wherein the researchers have found that pregnant women who consume fish more than 2-3 times a week are most likely to give birth to babies with higher cognitive scores, which means their brains would be incredibly developed. This is all because of the omega-3 that are commonly found in fish, babies who have developed brain are actually less likely to develop autism. Even if pregnant women are often concerned because of mercury in fish, there are far more chances of consuming omega-3 since it definitely has no risk of mental decline on mercury. The first few months of pregnancy is very important because this is when the brain of the child is being developed which is why it is very important to ask your nutritionists and ob-gyne regarding this seafood situation.


According to a research study that was conducted by Martha Clare Morris from Rush Medical Center in Chicago, people who actually consume seafood at least once a week are less likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, this is because fish has been discovered to counteract some of the major effects genetic mutation has on people. The scientists involved in this research actually had to conduct autopsies and study the brains of the people who sided over a ten-year period and they apparently checked for the neurotic plaques. Thousands of people all over the world are actually suffering from Alzheimer’s disease right now. This particular type of dementia actually causes really big problems with a person’s memory, behavior, and way of thinking. It is the kind of diseases that get severe over time that it would start to interfere with the person’s everyday life. As a progressive disease, people who suffer from early signs must expect that they will eventually lose the ability to hold a conversation, to remember people and things, it may not sound really painful unlike cancer but it is actually the sixth leading cause of death in America.


Morris also stated that one of their theories is that seafood and fish consumption is definitely beneficial to people more than the age of 50 since they are basically the ones at risk of dementia. One of the reasons is because when people get older, their DHA gets lesser in the brain and it is the main fatty acid that people could actually get from the fish. So the more DHA in the brain the fewer chances a person will get dementia.


People nowadays are just so busy taking care of their physical being, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. However, some people do this only for the sake of looking good, so people need to start thinking about how they should also take care of one of the most important parts of the human body which is the brain. Consuming seafood is one of the best ways to do it but then again, it is definitely not enough. The brain changes as we age and people get older every single day, which is why it is important to make sure that our brain stays young and healthy as we age.
