There are questions to be asked. Why is there always a strange feeling in your stomach after eating it? Can greasy food encourage acne to sprouts? Is greasy food good for your health and overall wellbeing?

A Boston-based registered dietitian by the name Ayla Barmmer has these insights about greasy foods. We present to you the list of 5 things that you need to know about greasy foods.

  1. Greasy foods can cause stress to your digestive system

Barmmer said that foods that have oil contents generally (like fried foods) produce excessive fat and the capacity will be a huge burden on our digestive system, which of course, is a bad thing. Barmmer continued her lecture by enumerating on fat being the most sluggard nutrient to be digested amongst others like protein and carbs. Fat cannot digest without enzymes and digestive fluids such as stomach acid and bile to cut it to bits. She noted that a lot of people even lack sufficient quantity because human activities and involuntary incidences like taking medications and stress can reduce the rates at which these digestive fluids work. Now imagine the addition of fat, says Barmmer, the way your digestive system will react will be exaggerated, most times it can trigger nausea, uneasy feeling, and swelling.

  1. It triggers constant stooling and stomach pain, taking you to the loo all the time

Barmmer exposed another disadvantage of eating greasy foods. She said that it’s very common to experience digestive pressure because apart from having food settling down in your stomach, it may transport itself to your intestinal regions and that is unappealing, Brammer says. When you go to the toilet, your excreta may have oily or greasy texture in it, and you won’t like that. Barmmer also said that for some people, diarrhea and stomach discomfort occur in some cases after consuming greasy foods.

  1. Greasy foods can strike the bacteria in your gut and make it grow

Multiple research has shown undisputed proofs which point to the fact that the foods you devour can have adverse repercussion on your gut bacteria, which is also called the microbiome. Barmmer emphasized that the microorganisms are being put out of shape everytime you consume fries and a cheeseburger. People should know that there is the absence of essential nutrients such as healthy fats in greasy foods, she continued. These healthy fats are usually found in foods like extra olive oil, fish, avocados, and butter. Barmmer added that consuming more purified vegetable oils than healthy fats can careen the balance of the microbiome from fatty acids and this may upset the immune health and hormone levels.

  1. Greasy food may encourage acne to generate

Acne can grow after eating greasy meals, although it may not appear immediately or become too obvious at first. This means that greasy food can be an architect in this growth of zits.  She said the appearance may take time to manifest itself, but it will surely come later when the style of your diet calls for it.

  1. It increases the danger of contracting heart disease and diabetes

When you put greasy foods in your daily diet, Barmmer says, the risks of getting attacked by acute health challenges will come more often, and the danger of heart disease will increase. In 2014, one study conducted at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health by a team of researchers revealed that people who take fried foods between four and six times every week realized that their risk to get Type 2 diabetes rose to 39%, and their risk to get coronary heart disease rose to 23%. The percentages soared for those who took greasy foods almost every day.
