When you adopt a new diet, this only means you are going to try out a new way of feeding yourself which you have not tried before. Diet, however, is a much broader term than just something you do to lose weight. A new study even shows that when you break up your diet for extended periods of time might even work better for you. In such study, a control group took two weeks off at a time from their diets and even lost more weight. What is even better is that they were able to keep the weight off for longer.

Considering that a lot of very strict diets fail anyway, the key is to have a little of the good stuff every once in a while.

A diet is something you temporarily do when trying to lose weight and when you are satisfied already, you can get cocky and start eating normally again and this could be why you can gain a lot of weight back. This is the sad reality for most diets. When you stop doing them, you can gain all of that weight back or sadder, you can pack up even more. Fortunately, you can avoid this setback and doing so actually looks much easier.

All you have to do is give yourself a break once in a while. In a study which was published in Nature’s International Journal of Obesity, some obese men were split into two groups. The first one followed a strict diet that they followed religiously while the second group had broken in between. At the end of the study, those who had breaks lost an astounding 47% more than those who did not take breaks.

Why Taking Breaks Works Better

Research shows that when we try to teach our body to lose weight, our bodies fight back.

When it comes to working out, you need to give your body time to rest so that it can rebuild stressed tissue, which will make you stronger for your next workout. This new study just confirms that the same principle applies for dieting.

The researchers behind this study explained that when you are dieting, your basic metabolism slows down. This is because your body no longer has to exert as much as it does not really have that many calories to deal with. When your metabolism slows down, it can take you longer to lose weight.

Taking Breaks Makes Dieting Goals More Attainable
