What You Need to Know about the Blood Type Diet
The “Eat Right for Your Type” diet, more commonly known as the Blood Type diet, is increasingly becoming one of the more popular diets today, and not just for people who want to lose weight. Many doctors are now recommending the Blood Type diet to their patients to help them prevent different kinds of diseases and live healthier lifestyles.
Just like with other kinds of weight-loss diets out there, there are those that swear that the Blood Type diet works and there are some that don’t recommend it. That’s why we’ve come up with this article to tell you everything you need to know about the Blood Type diet so that you can find out for yourself if this is the right diet for you.
What is the Blood Type diet?
As the name implies, the Blood Type diet is designed to help you choose the right kinds of food for you to eat based on your blood type. It was developed by Dr. Peter D’Adamo who said that people with different blood types react differently to certain kinds of food.
Not only is this the reason why there are some people that lose weight with certain diet plans while others don’t. Dr. D’Adamo also pointed out that a person’s blood type is the reason why some people are more prone to developing certain kinds of chronic diseases than others.
Advantages of the Blood Type diet:
Focuses on eating fresh foods
One of the biggest benefits of following the Blood Type diet is that it discourages eating any kind of processed or refined foods, regardless of your blood type. This means that you enjoy a diet that contains very small quantities of sodium and hardly any type of additives or preservatives, which can lead to a host of chronic diseases.
Encourages fruits and vegetables
We all know that fruits and vegetables are very good sources of vitamins and minerals that help keep the body fit and healthy. At the same time, it also contains substantial amounts of fiber that help get rid of toxins and other free radicals that can cause you to gain weight and also lead to all sorts of illnesses and diseases.
Tailor fitted for each blood type
The Blood Type diet is designed for you to consume different kinds of foods that would not have any adverse reactions to your body because of your blood type. For instance, those with blood type A find it more difficult to digest and absorb nutrients coming from meat products, which is the reason why people with this blood type are recommended to consume more plant-based foods.
Disadvantages of the Blood Type diet:
Very complicated and expensive
Perhaps the biggest disadvantage of doing the Blood Type diet is that it can be quite complicated to do, especially if you plan to let your entire family follow this diet. Not everyone in your family may have the same blood type as you do. In fact, it’s very likely that your blood type can very well be different from your spouse and your children. And because each blood type has its own list of foods that can and cannot be eaten, that can easily cause your shopping bill to become higher than usual.
Eliminates whole categories of foods
Many nutritionists find that one of the biggest disadvantages of the Blood Type diet is that it requires you to get rid of whole categories of food. For example, people with blood type O are not allowed to consume any kind of food that comes from any grain products while people with type B blood are recommended to stay away from plant-based foods altogether. This doing away with whole categories of foods may help you lose weight, but it can also cause you to be lacking certain essential nutrients.
A requirement of food supplements
In order to make sure that your body still gets all the nutrients it needs to stay fit and healthy while you’re losing weight, you are required to take a variety of food supplements while you’re on the Blood Type Diet. Of course, Dr. D’Adamo recommends you using the food supplements that he sells on his website that are, as expected, quite expensive.
