Ed Sheeran Opens Up About His Dramatic Weight Loss

Ed Sheeran didn’t just wake up fit in 2025. The 34-year-old English singer made it happen, one hard choice at a time. After admitting he had “put on a load of weight” in 2024, the singer decided it was time to change. This wasn’t for a movie role or some photoshoot. It was personal.

The “Shape of You” hitmaker wanted to feel better, stronger, and in control. And it all started with a single goal: drop a stone. That is 14 pounds, give or take.

The plan kicked off at the start of the year. By the time he spoke with Andy Cohen on SiriusXM in September 2025, Sheeran had gone way past his original goal. Once he saw the results, the fire lit. He pushed himself harder and aimed for something he’d never done before, even in his twenties: a six-pack.

“I’ve never actually ever had a six-pack in my life,” Ed Sheeran said. “I’m going to see if I can do it.” That became the new target. Not just to lose weight. Build something.

A Lifestyle, Not a Phase

Ed / IG / Sheeran explains that he cleaned up what he put in his body. One of the biggest shifts was cutting back on alcohol, especially beer.

Getting there wasn’t magic. Sheeran started hitting the gym like it was part of the job. This time, he didn’t flake. Cardio became a staple, especially running, which he picked up seriously after quitting smoking back in 2019. Running helped his lungs bounce back, but it also became his way of staying clear-headed and fit.

In past interviews, he called it out as a sneaky weight gainer. And while he still has the odd night out, he is honest about slipping up now and then. He is not claiming perfection. But when he messes up, he gets right back on track. That is the difference this time around.

Takeout meals? Mostly gone. Instead, Sheeran started eating real food, cooked at home, not just for calories, but for control. He knew what was going into his meals, and he made it easier to avoid junk. This shift made a real impact, not just on his weight, but on how he felt.

A Long Time Coming

But here is the thing. Ed Sheeran didn’t just suddenly decide to care. This has been building. His health journey started years ago, when he quit smoking. That move alone changed how he saw himself. He started feeling lighter and more in control. And it gave him confidence to start moving more and eating less like a rockstar and more like a regular guy.

Ed / IG / Ed Sheeran didn’t do this to please the industry. No label told him to lean out. He did it because he wanted to see what he was capable of.

The pop icon has also been real about food struggles. In the past, he binge-ate. The late-night pizza runs, the mindless snacking. He has talked about the emotional side of it, too, how food became a comfort, especially when he was off the road or stressed out. That kind of honesty makes his transformation even more impressive.

From Binge Eating to Binge Exercising

And he is not pretending it is all smooth sailing now. He calls himself a “binge exerciser” these days, flipping the old habit on its head. Instead of reaching for food when things get rough, he goes for a run or hits the gym. It is a major shift.

Once he saw progress, he didn’t stop. That is what makes it different this time. It is a new lifestyle and a promise to himself.

By speaking so openly, Sheeran is giving people a look at the real work behind a transformation.
