Do you love avocados? Well, join the club of teeming millions, who cannot have enough of this versatile fruit. Versatile because you can sneak in an avocado pretty much any food, right from your morning smoothie to your healthy ice cream! We love the fact that it adds generous doses of creaminess to the food you eat.
But hey, when it comes to avocados, we must consider the taste factor and the health factor. Yes, avocados are incredibly healthy, and here are five reasons to show some avo love. Read on! And while I am writing this I am savoring nachos with a creamy avocado dip! Just saying!
Avocados help you to slim you down!
This miracle fruit is full of zillion good things, but the one thing that stands out is, it is full of the good kind of fats that helps you stay full for longer hours. And you can add it to your lunch and keep those hunger pangs at bay. When you are full there are fewer chances of you to snack on unhealthy stuff and this will help you shed off the extra weight. We would say, it’s a complete win-win!
The fruit that controls your blood pressure levels
Avo is rich in potassium and can control your blood pressure levels. Most people consider bananas as the ideal potassium source, however in this department avocados can give bananas stiff competition.
A medium banana contains about 422 milligrams of banana while avocado contains a whopping 487 milligrams of potassium. It’s a treasure trove of this essential mineral.
Hurt yourself? Avocados can have your back.
Move over band-aid avocado is here, ’cause avocados are the best band-aids nature can produce. The good fats are at it again, yes the generous amounts of monosaturated fats can keep you injury-free. A University of Buffalo study proved that female athletes, especially runners who consumed more avocados, were less likely to suffer from injuries than runners who consumed them in lesser amounts. So, to ward off injuries include good fats like avocados. Gives you the excuse to feast on sumptuous guacamole after a hectic run outside.
A low-carb food and hence your next best buddy!
When you are trying to lose weight, you mostly try to do away with carbs. However, we regard it non-sustainable way to lose weight. You can consume fewer calories than what you burn, it is the most effective way to lose weight.
All said and done avocados are weight-loss-friendly food. Also, it is a natural low-cholesterol food with very little sodium content, and consuming them regularly will help you lower your cholesterol levels too and hence good for your heart.
Low in sugar and high in fiber
If you are watching your waistline and avoiding foods that are high in sugar then avocado is your go-to food. Most people avoid sugary fruits as they want to balance their blood sugar levels. If you add a little bit of thickness and texture to your smoothies, then don’t look beyond avocado. Also, it is high in fiber, a little avo on to your plate and you can add a generous 14 grams of fiber a day.
Most nutritionists recommend you add at least 20-25 grams of fiber every day, so having a little avo every day can go a long way in helping you meet your fiber requirement. Having adequate fiber to your plate aids your health in so many ways and it is good for your digestive health, manages your blood sugar, and provides satiety.
It helps with your vision too
Lutein and zeaxanthin are powerful phytochemicals that shield your eyes in every possible way and work as a sunscreen to your eyes. The beneficial fats help in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, such as beta carotene, and prevent macular degeneration. So, if you want to reverse eye aging stick to avo on toast, or guasacaca and tortilla chips, whatever your heart sings for and taste buds crave for.
Are you an avocado aficionado like us? Well, if you are not until now, we are sure you would be one from now. So, don’t forget to include avocados in your shopping list. And make sure, it’s a part of your everyday diet!
